Around this time, my gran sadly passed away. I had wanted something to remember her by (well not that I will ever forger her, but you know what I mean). She always wore cardigans and jumpers, and made my sister and I jumpers as kids (they were super cool, they always has pictures on them). Anyway before her clothes were donated to the charity shop, I picked out the one I wanted and turned it into a cushion cover for our bed.
Here is what you need to make your own one:
- A jumper (can be new, but charity shop ones are cheap, and if you can get one with a sentimental meaning attached to it, even better). Try and get one that will fit your cushion as best as possible. My cushion was a little small, so I had to do a bit more sewing.
- Pillow insert - I used a old insert from a pillow I no longer use, you could use stuffing if you wished, it would make it a lot easier.
- Needle, Wool and Scissors
Steps:
- Firstly lay your jumper out so you can see where you want to place the cushion (if there are any patterns etc, make sure those are where you want them).
- Once you are happy with the placement, cut across the jumper.
- Next turn the section you will be using as your cover inside out and cut along the one seam.
- Stitch the 2 long sides up (I triple stitched mine)
- Turn the cover the right way around and insert the cushion cover (if you are using stuffing, stitch up most of the third side - leaving a small gap to turn the cover the right way around, and put the stuffing in.
- Once the insert is in, fold over the ends to make a hem ,and stitch carefully together
Its super easy to make, and I love it. Every time I walk into our bedroom I instantly see the cushion and think of my dear gran.
In loving memory of Kerry James (26.12.1934 - 22.09.2016)
Well done it looks great
