At first - I only managed to get 10ml, I was like okay, this is going to be too much hard work, the next few days were slightly better as I got 30mls each time. At this point I was about to give up, but that's not in my nature, so I did a bit more researching and tried a bunch of different things to techniques to get it going. (Different angles, pushing my boob, hot flannel - to name a few).
Finally on day 4, I managed to get 90mls, it took about 15 minutes in total, so I got to have some coffee and a chat to my 3 year old while it was doing it thing - but was so stoked that I finally figured it out.
I had just been sticking it on roughly when it was feeding time, and as I don't have a 'let down' (well let's just say nothing comes out the side I am not feeding on), and my boobs don't get super hard, when they are full/fullish, I don't think they were firm enough to get a good suction and pump, so I was getting a few drops with the most being 30mls (which I should appreciate I guess).
So I fed only from one side for the night feed, and in the morning my boobie was nice and full, and hard and begging to be pumped, so was a perfect candidate for my 4th attempt. Now that I know what I am doing, it's going to make it so much easier, and less stressful.
So that was all the how, here is the what:
So what is it exactly?
Well it's a breast pump - an all in one, no pipes, plugs, cups or vents. Just an all in one silicone pump, that is ready to collect 150mls of your liquid gold. It is portable, easy to clean, BPA free, and is a bargain at $29.90. Have I sold you on it yet?
Click here for the official steps on how to use it, but it is super easy (once you master it) - you squeeze, release on the boob, (re position if needed) and sit back and let it do the rest. Its great to stick on while feeding on the other side, and it does a great job at collecting the 'let down', and some of the other milk in the boobie too.
These don't come with the pump, but can be purchased separately (and I would recommend it). Let's just take a moment to appreciate how cute it is- I mean come on. This little stopper is fab and at $11.50 its a bargain. I even tipped my pump upside down to show you how well it works.
I'm going back to work soon, and I plan on pumping at work (ugh), so will be taking this with me to use as well as my electric pump. I think for everyday pumping I would still use my electric, but for on the go pumps, and to pump alongside my electric one when I am back at work, this will be my new go to.
It's also handy to leave by my bedside table at night, as I like to pump first thing in the morning - this bad boy doesn't make a sound, so you can just squeeze and release, and not have to worry about it waking the whole house up.
Another plus is that it suctions to the night stand, which is even better as Keaton (3) likes to come bounding in and has knocked over a few bottles in the past.
Make sure to pop over to the Haakaa website and have a look at the range of goodies they have, and while you are there, get one of these beauties too.
