Does your little one
have a favourite bedtime book?
I recently made
a book shelf for Keaton out of spice racks which I picked up off Akia Homeware (I think
it’s the same as IKEA). I painted them white, and put them up in a line, they
work really well and hold heaps of books.
So with our mini
library, you would think that there would be no shortage of variety to read at
night. Think again. Keaton has become obsessed with this one book in particular
Goose on the farm,
and by obsessed, I mean – he will literally scream if you don’t read it. We pick two books to
read every night, and one of those never change, no matter how much I try and
get him to choose something else, nope don’t even try mom! One night I started
reading another book, and he was like “no mom, no no no” I actually could not
read the book because he was shouting so loudly.
He knows just about
every word, even when we are not reading the book, I can start to say a sentence (yes I now
know the book off by heart too), and he will carry on the sentence. I hope he
gets tired of it soon, it’s been about 4 months, and is still obsessed. I have even tried hiding it behind other books, bus as soon as bedtime comes, he
starts looking for it and won't give in until we have "found" it.

Most of the book collection comes from Op shops, I can sometimes get a whole bag of books for under $5.00, there is nothing wrong with them, and Keaton loves looking at the pictures, and sometimes I find the older books better than the new ones anyway.

DeleteThe spice racks make excellent book holders. Love the way they look all filled with the colorful books. Very nice! I used to read my oldest niece bedtime stories at night. The book she was obsessed with was 'Give A Dog A Bath' - we read it every night for months and months on end ... no matter what. We even read it backward a few times (my idea - just to break the monotony of it). She liked that even more. Ugh! And yes - we both knew every word by heart. :) Thanks for bringing back this fun memory. I'd almost forgotten. LOL :)

DeleteA great collection of books and I love the shelves. My son has firm favourites too. I can almost recite "The Little Yellow Digger" by heart. Hairy Maclary books are always popular. Actually anything with diggers and/or dogs is a hit. I use the library a lot, as then I only have to read the same book every night for three weeks until we get some new ones.
